SSL Sailor Paul Cayard Rolex Yachtsman of the Year Finalist

Paul Cayard, one of the most accomplished sailors in the Star Sailors League, has been named a finalist for the 2025 Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year Award.

A regular competitor of the Star Sailors League Finals in Nassau, Cayard has claimed multiple victories in the event over the years. Beyond his racing career, Cayard has been a strong supporter of SSL initiatives, including the development of the SSL Gold Cup, a national team competition inspired by football’s World Cup format.

“Nationality has always been core to the SSL,” said Paul Cayard, Louis Vuitton Cup winner and Olympian.

“The Olympics gives this opportunity as well, as we love to represent our country. But the SSL format could also be considered by the Olympics. One fleet with four boats going through a Qualifying Series, two eliminated, the others moving forward until the final — one race where the winner takes it all. It is very exciting.”

In 2025, Cayard captured the Star World Championship title, triumphing over a fleet of more than 100 boats. This victory marked his second Star World Championship, coming 37 years after his first world title.

Cayard is also a seven-time America’s Cup competitor, reaching the final match twice, and represented the United States at the Olympic Games, where he finished just outside the podium in fourth place.

Cayard is also part of the Rolex family, alongside sailing legend Robert Scheidt and global sports icons such as Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Iga Świątek, James Cameron, and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Currently, Paul Cayard holds 13th place in the SSL Ranking.
